The BIG Transition: From Freelancer to Becoming a Business Owner

Transitioning can be scary for many freelancers. And I get it, changing the way you work especially when your own reputation depends on it, is a big risk.

Technically, as a freelancer, you are a gun for hire. Your technical expertise is what brings food to your table, and most of the time that’s what clients hired you for. However, as a business owner, you have to understand that being proficient in your field is only a small piece of a puzzle. When you think about problem-solving, you also open the door to deliver business solutions in various ways. Clearly, the list goes on and on.

So, I recently came across with a quote, and it says, “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” It made me think about an undervalued aspect of growth and progress. It’s the idea that we’re not supposed to have the answers, the idea that we are not supposed to know. To be able to bravely take what comes at you, the highs or lows, the ups and downs and truly to understand them, adjust your strategy then move on are what really matters. It’s high time that I made some changes around here. I want to challenge myself for bigger things.

The  business approach might be different, but the level of commitment will be the same. There’s a lot of work behind the scenes but this is just the beginning.
